Doesn't do what it says it will do

Don't you hate it when you buy a product to do specifically what it specifically said it will do but then it doesn't specifically do it!
I invested a little fortune on the Calm & Correct range from JOEY New York. It's what I call a boutique brand which is just starting to make its way into Australia - at some department stores and Priceline stocks it too.
I was after skincare to help soothe my sensitive skin and reduce the redness I get after a shower. After spending a good hour researching products on the web, JOEY New York's philosophy and product range impressed me and I decided to go with it.
I don't want to say the brand is crap and that the product is crap BUT it just doesn't reduce redness or calm my skin. To make things worse, the cleanser stings my eyes and makes them go so bloodshot that I like look I've been drinking all week! This is a crude result for a sensitive product range.
Now this range may suit someone else and I'm sure there are people around the world who will swear by Calm & Correct. We all have different skin so what works on one person may not work on another person, even if they have the same condition like skin sensitivity.
The experience has only validated what I have long been thinking:
IT'S ONLY THROUGH TRIAL THAT WE REALLY KNOW IF A PRODUCT SUITS OUR SKIN
PRODUCT CLAIMS NEED TO BE TESTED ON YOUR OWN SKIN
IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY, WORDS AND INGREDIENTS ARE NOT BIBLE - YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH THE PRODUCT IS
I am even tempted to buy a skincare range that claims to do something that I don't really it need it to do in the hope that it will do the opposite of what it says! I'm serious - I am going to buy an abrasive cleanser and moisturiser (with AHAs, acids, wrinkly eraser etc) and it will probably soothe more than what I am using now. I'll let you know how it goes.

My theory is, out of 10 beauty products bought, only 1 will do what it's supposed to do - unfortunately, it took me a little over 10 years to learn that so I don't want to contemplate how much I'd bought since I started. I have sensitive skin as well and after trying one product after another, I find that the best cleansers for me are the cream cleansers like Dermalogica Essential Cleansing and even Garnier (the pink one). Best moisturisers are the fragrance free ones. They never irritate my skin. Hope this helps.
