Exercise 'til you tingle

November 15th 2007 01:54
I walk for exercise on most days. I have found that walking until there is a light tingle at the tops of my legs keeps my body toned without stressing about going to the gym.

The "tingle" happens because I have walked long enough to get the blood circulating and the fat melting! It's a sign from my body that I am doing enough to keep active and healthy. It probably happens at different times for everyone.

For me, walking for 15 minutes is not enough - it doesn't give me the tingle. No doubt, the 15 minutes is good for my body but when I walk for 20 minutes I'm right on for a tingle. Just that extra 5 minutes is wonderful for me.

Having discovered the walking time that works for me - 20-30 minutes per day - I know I'm doing right by my body.

Some may argue that you should exercise until your body is burning not tingling. I don't subscribe to that. I say pick something you like doing, do it regularly and do it until your body tingles.

What are your tingle times? I'd be curious to see if really fit people tingle sooner or later than unfit people when they exercise.

Hi Lidia, I've taken up walking as my form of exercise too! I did kickboxing for 3 years but am so sick of it now. I don't burn as much calories walking as I did kickboxing but I find it more refreshing - at least I get to go outside, soak up the sun and the breeze and I look forward to it. I try to walk five hours a week and yes, I do feel the tingle but only after about an hour or so.

I agree - the sun and the breeze make walking such a pleasure.

After an hour ... wow... maybe that's because you're fit! if you did all that kickboxing your body probably thinks walking is well...just a walk in the park! Whereas my body thinks walking is a workout

ciao
