Patent yourself

Patent leather and vinyl is around in good measure for winter. It's such a striking look that I will be sure to buy a few "patent" somethings this year.
As a start, I couldn't resist this burgundy handbag that has a semi-patent finish. The traditional patent is glossier but I like the muted patents too. There are a lot of different patent looks to choose from in the stores - some are rich and shiny, others have a scratchy and crinkly finish.
.
The great thing about patent items is that if you have a savvy eye, you can pretty much get the same look with vinyl versus full leather but at a much, much lower price. The bag pictured above was $75 sale price ($100 full price) because it is vinyl...but who cares because I love it and it looks just as stylish as the some of the $500 patent leather bags I'm seeing in the stores. Plus I thought it was leather at first - which is always the true test - and only when I checked its label did I see it was composed of man made material. Bring it on, I say!
Before you splurge the $500 (like I nearly did), shop around and see what your vinyl options are. Since my first patent item cost me so little, I have budget left over to spend on shoes, another handbag, maybe a belt, a clutch...the list goes on...what joy!
