Pretty days

December 6th 2007 03:34
Females have pretty days and the not-so-pretty days. The pretty days are the ones where people notice your looks, smile at you, compliment you and are amenable to you purely because you look pretty to them. The not-so-pretty days are the ones where not much outward appreciation of your looks is coming your way. You may still look pretty but your looks are just not attracting attention.

Now, back to the pretty days. The great thing about them is that they can happen when you have not gone to any lengths to enhance your prettiness! Of course, there are also days when you've put on an amazing dress, the perfect accessories to match, your hair has turned out just the way you like it, your skin is glowing, and you know when you walk out the door, hearts are going to be set on fire! However, as we know, these days don't happen everyday so it's doubly nice to get a pretty day when you have exerted no effort.

The no-effort pretty day happens because others see you in your raw beauty - the unaffected prettiness that every woman owns. You have gone out with little or no make-up, thrown on attire that you took no time in picking, are comfortable in your skin, and you're just letting yourself BE. You're not concerned about your appearance - you are absorbed in other things.

When people notice you on a no-effort day it's very powerful because they are reacting to your naked features. It's like they can see the child in you - the best part of you - and are smiling at that. It's more powerful than being noticed on a big-effort pretty day because (pardon the pun) at the end of the day, everyone can look magical with the help of cosmetics, well-chosen attire, hair styling, the right shoes, perfect handbag and all other manner of womanly widgets.

I think to notice your pretty days, you have to let go of what you think people see in you. I don't think we know exactly what people see in us - unless we ask them to tell us - so part of feeling comfortable in our skin is removing the question in our minds "What do people see in me?" or "What will people think of me?" This frees us from predetermining the effect or connection we have to others. Let people react to the way you are without being concerned about why or how...then when you notice their reaction, it will tell you something about yourself and something about them.
