Red lipstick can influence a man

I was told by a male friend that I should wear the following make-up to bring out my beauty:
Red lipstick
Black mascara
Black eyeliner
A touch of concealer under the eyes
"That's all. Nothing else. Forget the blush, the powder. Forget those glosses and pink lipsticks," he passionately advised.
"Kev," I said, "That's a cabaret look. Red lips and defined eyes give a smouldering look for fancy evenings. It's not a look I can wear everyday. It stands out too much and I'll get too much attention."
"Exactly!" He retorted.
Well, I guess he's got a point. If you want to get attention, then wearing make-up that enhances your features in a very sexy way is a sure way to get it.
However, if you are not concerned about getting attention but just want to look beautiful and the best that you can look, then the dramatic effect of dark eyes and red lips won't suit everyone.
I can't ignore Kev's advice, though, because he has a very astute eye and a highly refined sense of style...he lives and breathes creative design and innovation so his opinion on what my features need is valued.
I think it's also interesting to note that Kev suggested the classic make-up items only, in classic colours. Men keep things simple and there is something in this.
I have worn this style of make-up before but I hadn't done so in quite a while. I donned the suggested cosmetics while I was on a holiday in Palm Cove...I was staying at a beachside resort so I knew the look was overdone for my surroundings but I wore it anyway on one of the nights we went to dinner.
I didn't really notice more men looking at me. However, the waiter did give me a complimentary glass of wine and then after dessert he gave us all a French liqueur on the house. Was it my chic, sexy make-up that got this bonus? I'll never really know...but it's nice to think that red lipstick can influence men...

Style of dress and the image you want to present are also important too. Of course, if you don't want all the attention well then more subtle makeup and dress are called for.
I'm probably the more complicated "New Age" type of guy. If a girl showed up to a date wearing complicated makeup and she's obviously made the effort to look good then that gets my attention more.
On the other hand if she turns up with red lipstick and smokey eyes I'm more inclined to think "Trashy".

Good point about the red lips/smokey eyes looking trashy...it's a fine line. I've seen it look very elegant on some women but I've also seen the trashy effect...I think if the eyeliner is applied too thick and the red is too gaudy then you're in trouble
