Root cover-ups

If you lighten your hair, you would’ve noticed that after about 4-5 weeks the darker roots become more noticeable and begin to bother you. However, going to the hair salon is expensive so I tend to get my roots redone every 6-7 weeks. This probably saves me a good few hundred dollars in a year since any one visit can cost about $200.
I get extended wear between salon visits by using a couple of tricks to cover up the darkness of the roots during the last couple of weeks. My bag of tricks include:
· Dusting face powder over the roots – any old cheap face powder will do. Loose or pressed powder works the same just don’t go using your expensive Chanel powder compact as then you may as well be going to the salon more often
· Head bands and ties – it’s the perfect excuse to wear something you might normally not wear. There are lots of great styles out there – from fabric ones to the plastic types. The wider the head band the more it covers. The 50’s style black plastic head band is especially striking on blonde hair teamed with red lipstick and lots of black mascara.
· Puff up and put volume in the hair near the roots – I find that when your hair is bouncy and volumised around the roots, it takes the focus away from the roots and puts it on the volume of hair surrounding them. Soft, bouncy curls or the wavy hair look is also good for distracting attention from the roots. The ironed straight hair look tends to put emphasis on your roots.
