Stealer of Looks 2007

December 11th 2007 08:39
During highly stressful times in our life, it's easy to get churned into and up by the stress spinning machine...it wants your energy, your zest for life and it wants your looks!

Stress is the No. 1 Stealer of Looks.
A close 2nd is poor diet.
Coming in 3rd place: bad wardrobe choices.

Stress also has the sole capacity to ruin your skin, diet, hair, nails, and wardrobe choices!

It ruins your diet because you start opting for quick fixes - junk food, high sugar treats - instead of focusing on fruit & veg, lean meats, grains, and fish.

It ruins your wardrobe choices because you start panicking about how you look and impulsively buy "fix-it" clothing to make yourself feel better instead of getting to the root of the problem.

The root of the problem is that stress steals your joy. You don't wake up happy. You go to bed hoping to blank out the day but know that you will relive it as you try to go to sleep. You have forgotten about the things you like doing in your leisure time. Quite simply, you may not even be giving yourself any leisure time. The word itself "leisure" may have even gone out of your soul's dictionary. It just does not remember its last true leisure or joy experience.

The way to get back joy is to put leisure into your life. Start doing the things you enjoy doing. Maybe it's reading in the sun, walking in the park, swimming in the ocean, or meeting with friends.

Doing the things you love doing lets you escape from pressure and ease your body and mind into a calmer state. I spent an hour in a cafe last week just people watching and writing in my journal...I noticed how totally relaxed I became and it reminded me that I need to give myself such time and space on a regular basis. I came out of the cafe renewed and inspired...better equipped to handle the pressures of my week.

Your soul needs to have joy juice not only to rise above stress but also to spread forth the beauty angel all over your body. My skin was no longer ashen when I walked out of that cafe!
