Stressed out skin?
October 17th 2007 03:48
When I am stressed or just not feeling my spritey self, my skin is one one of the first outward places to show my lack lustre mood. It loses its glow and looks dull and sallow. Pretty much the way I feel inside is the way my skin appears on the outside.
Happy and fresh on the inside = glowing, happy skin
Tired body = dull, tired skin
Angry self = angry, red skin
And so on...
This is not surprising to many because recently there have been links to emotions and skin. One of my friends who gets occasional bouts of acne also tells me that it's when he is angry or upset with his life that the acne comes up.
When my skin is dull and sallow, I do three simple things that help it revive. These can be done alone or together, but they must be without make-up!
1. I take a bath - it helps me relax inwardly and also my skin gets to soak up some moisture from the steam so that if you place on a soothing mask or rich cream, your skin will drink it up. Mostly, though, it's the sensation of being calm and peaceful that brings me back to centre and my skin back to health!
2. I dab on Clarins Beauty Flash Balm - even without a bath, this cream is a little miracle lotion that gives your skin a zesty touch. It feels refreshing and within minutes your skin looks just that touch brighter. It's not the cheapest balm on the market but I've had my tube for about 2 years now because I only use it when I need to; it's not an everyday cream so your initial investment will pay off beautifully (pun intended).
3. I rethink what's happening in my life - Am I stressing over something out of my control? Should I just let the bad situation go? What can I do to disentangle myself from a low mood? Why am I even worrying? What are the things I can be grateful for? And so on...until something strikes within me that sets me free from the burden. This is a hard feat to achieve but I find the process itself helps to lift the non-essential stuff from my life (like worry, anger) so that I can see the joy and light in my life, which by the way never go away but get shrouded over by moments of darkness.

Mum's Word
Oh yeah, my skin is the first to look shocking and the one thing that works for me is to rethink what's going on in my life. Eat better, sleep more, relax the muscles in my face.
Look forward to reading more.
Love & stuff
