Which belt isn't leather?

November 6th 2007 03:25
I love the feel and look of leather belts, so that draws me toward buying them.

I own a few non-leather ones such as a gold metal fitted waist belt that my Mum use to wear in the 80's and that became mine a couple of years ago when I raided her wardrobe trying to find random, unique pieces. I also own a couple of vinyl belts...which I bought a few years back because they were cheap and suited particular outfits I had at the time.

However, I don't buy vinyl belts anymore because leather is so affordable, wears better and therefore lasts longer. Choosing neutral, earthy tones or styles that can make the distance in terms of not being fad designs means I don't need to buy belts that often.

Below are pictures of some of my belts. Can you guess which belt is not made of leather?

I know in real life it's pretty easy to tell leather from non-leather, in most cases anyway, so I hope I have given you the right angle in these photos to help you decide.

My point is - why pay $20 for a vinyl belt when you can pay $30 for a leather belt. Okay, so sometimes they cost a bit more. Like the thick black belt cost me $70 - but it wasn't on sale and I knew it would last me many seasons of wear. Most of the other belts I have bought on sale for around $30! To sum it up, you can find leather belts at reasonable prices that look ten times better than vinyl belts.

I think that a leather belt adds class and smoothness to your outfit in a way that a vinyl belt can't. Leather also feels sensual and so much more like a second skin, making it so much nicer for that special someone who likes to grab you by the hips or the waist!

Environmentally, I have no idea whether it's better to buy leather or vinyl, so I can't comment. Both use chemicals, dyes in the design process...I'm only giving a style opinion.
