Who do you dress for?
October 30th 2007 02:18
I have found that when I am in the throes of attraction, my attention to detail on my outfits, accessories and all other adornments goes off the Richter scale. In other words, I dress the best that I can to impress the one that I am attracted to.
The romantic interest or crush fuels my desire to look good. This is a natural instinct. It happens in the wild so why wouldn't it happen with humans! A striking example from nature is when peacocks show off their plumage during courtship. There's no doubt the peacock is stating: "Look, look at me. I have the biggest, brightest feathers around here!"
If you are currently feeling those love hormones pulsate through you, then you don't need much advice about looking good. Your own instinct (and hormones) are driving you to embellish yourself.
Now for those of us currently not attracted to someone - including people in existing relationships where there has been a lack of fire or lust or that special chemistry - then we need some special advice to help us revive our looks.
I beseech you to choose someone to dress for! Yes that's right.
Your gal pals may be the place to start...if you're not already dressing for them. Tight-knit girlfriends who hang out a lot do end up wanting to wear nice things for each other so they can soak up the compliments as well as hand them back out.
I get excited when I have a new dress for all the obvious reasons - makes me feel new, look new - but also because I want to show my best friends! I also love seeing what they're wearing...it makes me appreciate them so much more.
So, in recent times, I have been dressing for them. I also get inspiration from this site: The Sartorialist. It's a fabulous place to see what people around the world are wearing in real-life, not on the catwalks.
And remember, when you are as single as can be - you're not dating, seeing, or even interested in someone - every time you walk out the door, you could bump into Mr. I Like You! Have this thought in the FRONT of your mind during your morning routine to help fake the hormone burst of pure attraction...

Interesting title and question... I have to say ~ first and foremost... comfort, then for me... if some blokey bloke likes it, all the better *chuckle* but I won't alter the halter for eny ego, especially at the risk of comfort..."no way girlfriend!"
*laughs*
A fun post.

I used to like to look my best, but these days i would rather feel my comfiest! I might put something fancy on if I am having my photo taken, but when it is myself, my pigeons, and my teenage son - well, there just does not really seem to be any point wasting my money or time!
